![]() CityThe Hague is the capital city of the province of Zuid Holland. It is a large city on the west coast. Our royal family lives in The Hague and also our government is situated here. In the past years the inner city has been renovated. World known arcitects have created beautiful modern buildings, but also there are many historical buildings left. Every year the city holds special events such as an international fireworks festival, marathons and big music events.
SchoolSituation The ‘s Gravendreef College is situated in a newly built suburb of the Hague, called Leidschenveen. The building in Leidschenveen started in 1996 and is still in progress. Leidschenveen consists of 6 neighborhoods, each with their own character. Most of the buildings are terraced houses and there are some apartment buildings. Since March 2009 we have a beautiful new school building. The ‘s Gravendreef College is part of a larger educational unit called Spinoza. Spinoza consists of 10 schools. Each school has its own target group. At the ‘s Gravendreef College we have 480 pupils at the moment and we hope to grow to 650 pupils in future. At our school we offer the children several levels of education. We have a 4 year course for vocational education on 2 levels and a high school which takes 5 years.
Our students Our students come to our school after finishing primary school, so they are 11 or 12 years old and leave at the age of 15 to 17. It depends on the children individual possibilities which profile of learning they are offered. There is quite a large variety in the origins of our students. Of course a large group comes from Holland, but many have a different background; Surinam, the Antilles, Morocco, Turkey and several African countries. As we find it important for our students to treat each other with respect and understanding we have special lessons called ‘Leefstijl’ in which we try to get the children to think about the values of life.
Schoolactivities School takes up an important part of the student lives, therefore we offer a lot of extra curricular activities. For example; nature lessons, camps, exchange programs, museum visits, school parties and several sports activities. On our website www.sgdc.nl you can see more pictures of many of the activities. In school year 2006-2007 we started with a profiled class for theater and music. We have specialized teachers for drama, dance and music. The Staff Beside our headmaster and deputy headmaster, there is a teaching staff of more than 40 teachers, several class assistants, an administrative staff and last but certainly not least our two concierges. As we are a small school we interact a lot, helping each other and participating in many of the activities. Classes2A2B |
