City
Our town Lüneburg is situated in the northern part of Lower the city of Saxony ( the second biggest state in Germany ), 50 km south of the city of Hamburg.
Lueneburg is rich in tradition and has an over 1000 years old history which is closely connected with salt – “the white gold of the Middle Ages” – which was the only means of preserving food in those times.
The saltworks were the basis for Lueneburg’s wealth and made it a powerful member of the Hanseatic trading alliance.
The town hall and the market place
The city centre is still full of old patrician brick houses built in the North Gothic style that testify to the prosperity of the town in the Medieval Ages.

Am Sande an Johannis Church
Apart from being a tourist town with many attractions, Lueneburg is ideal for shopping: Most of the inner city is pedestrianised.
Our town has a rich cultural life incuding theatres and museums. We also have a university with students from various countries.
Our school, ‘Hauptschule Stadtmitte’ is situated right in the middle of the town, hence the name, next to our (!) watertower.
